The EnSEMBLE

The Ceridwen Ensemble are a dynamic Wales-based chamber music ensemble in Cardiff. The group was originally founded as the Ceridwen Quartet in 2016 by four friends and colleagues who met whilst working with Welsh National Opera.

In the years since, the group’s membership has altered and changed alongside the blossoming careers and life circumstances of its members. This newest phase in 2025 sees founding members Becca and Ros exploring exciting musical collaborations with a whole range of their most talented musical friends and colleagues, including welcoming two new members in Kitty Cheung (Violin) and Laura Sinnerton (Viola).

The common thread binding the ensemble together is without a doubt, the revolving cast of extremely talented, experienced and much-sought after professional orchestral musicians with whom they collaborate. The innate joy and thrill of breaking music down to it’s most elemental level, through rehearsing and performing chamber music together, is what unites them creatively.

Both performers and audiences alike have been captivated by their concerts, presented in intimate settings, and exploring the repertoire and artistic form into which countless composers poured their finest work and inspiration. The music they make is about the journey as much as the destination – which has made for some unforgettable and striking past performances.

The ensemble’s name derives from the mythical character of Welsh medieval legend – Ceridwen – a powerful sorceress who possessed a magical cauldron. As with all ancient tales, hers is a story of many twists and turns, of joy and despair and of magic and mischief. A fitting choice for this group – a goddess of inspiration, transformation and rebirth.

With new impetus and motivation from relaunching in 2025 as the Ceridwen Ensemble, plans are well under way for a series of concerts in Spring and Summer 2025. Please visit the Concerts page for more information and to book your tickets. Ceridwen very much look forward to seeing you there!
