Laura Sinnerton

Viola

Irish violist Laura Sinnerton has been a member of the viola section of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales since 2009. Alongside her regular section duties of performing, recording and touring with the orchestra, Laura has enjoyed the opportunity to work with Welsh composition students on new works for string quartet, perform at 6Music Festival with Father John Misty, and for a number of years wrote a well received diary about orchestral life for BBC Wales.

Laura maintains a vibrant and varied freelance career, working with opera and ballet companies, chamber groups, other symphony orchestras and period performance ensembles across the UK. She also enjoys working with younger musicians and in addition to her own teaching practice, receives invitations to coach on courses across the UK.

Laura has a deep interest in new music and working with living composers. In 2021 her album, Inner Voices, was released by NMC Recordings / Birmingham Record Company, featuring six new works for solo viola by emerging composers.

Laura previously joined the Ceridwen Quartet as a guest player in the Summer of 2023, and we are delighted to welcome her now as an official member of the relaunched Ceridwen Ensemble.

Away from the viola, Laura is an avid reader and keen runner.
